Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to safeguarding your data. This Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) explains our practices and your rights related to your information.

1. Scope of this Policy

This Policy applies to your use of our websites, products, and services (collectively, our “Services”), including when you contact our customer service team, attend a workshop, participate in a class, respond to a survey, enter a contest or sweepstakes we administer, download our free guides or other materials, or otherwise interact with us. Our Services include the Journey to Legacy Life Story Studio writing platform, which stores the stories and images you create using our platform.

Our Services may display content or direct you to sites, software, or services owned or operated by third parties (“Third-Party Services”). This Policy does not apply to Third-Party Services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of those Third-Party Services before providing your personal information to them.

By creating an account, purchasing products, downloading our free materials, or using our Services, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this Policy. If you do not accept this Policy, please do not purchase, use, or access the Services. Your use of our Services is also subject to our Terms and Conditions

2. Where Your Data Is Stored

Your information is stored on the following infrastructure:

  • Stories and written content you create on our Life Story Studio platform are stored in our WordPress database, hosted by Kinsta on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure in the United States.
  • Images and media you upload are stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud storage, located in the United States.

Your information is stored using the security measures provided by our infrastructure providers. Kinsta runs on Google Cloud Platform, which provides enterprise-grade data security. AWS provides physical security, access controls, and network security for image storage. We rely on these enterprise-grade security measures to protect your content.

3. Information We Collect and How We Use It

We collect various types of personal information when you register for an account, purchase or access our Services, seek customer support, complete a survey or form, enter a contest or sweepstakes, or otherwise interact with us.

Personal information we may collect includes:

  • Personal Identifiers: Name, mailing address, phone number, email address, age, social media handles.
  • Your Content: Stories, life writing, photos, images, voice recordings, and transcripts you create or upload using our Services. This may include sensitive personal information such as health information, relationship history, family history, and other deeply personal material.
  • Payment Information: Credit card and payment details are handled entirely by Stripe, our PCI-compliant payment processor. Journey to Legacy does not store any credit card information.
  • Commercial Information: Purchase date, purchase totals, product types.
  • Internet or Electronic Network Activity and Geolocation Information: IP address, cookies, website browsing, search history and interaction activity, and other device or mobile browser identifiers.
  • Website Login Credentials.
  • Details on Your Interaction with Our Services: Email address and telephone log information from customer service inquiries, device event information such as crashes.
  • Inferences About Customer Preferences and Characteristics: Inferred from information you provide, collected indirectly from your browser or device, and obtained from third-party marketing database partners.

We use this information to:

  • Maintain and service your account
  • Provide customer service
  • Process and fulfill your orders
  • Process payments
  • Advertise and market our products to you
  • Detect security incidents and protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity
  • Enhance your user experience
  • Conduct analytics to improve our products and services

4. Sensitive Personal Information

The stories and life writing you create on our platform may contain personal information that is considered “sensitive” or “special” under applicable law — including health information, information about relationships, family history, grief, trauma, religious or philosophical beliefs, and other deeply personal material.

By submitting content that contains sensitive personal information, you consent to Journey to Legacy’s use of that information as necessary to provide the Services to you. We will not use sensitive personal information for any other purpose without your explicit permission. You may withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us at [email protected], with the understanding that doing so may limit our ability to provide certain services to you.

5. Video Conferencing Classes and Workshops

Journey to Legacy offers various classes, events, and workshops through video conferencing platforms such as Zoom or similar services. These offerings may include both private group sessions and complimentary workshops open to anyone who signs up.

By participating in these sessions, you acknowledge and agree that your participation — including your video and audio feed — will be visible to other participants and may be recorded. You have the option to enable or disable your video and audio feeds. By enabling your video feed, you voluntarily consent to your image and likeness being captured and recorded as part of the session.

For private group sessions, recordings may be made available for replay to other members of the private group who were unable to attend the live session. For complimentary workshops open to public sign-ups, recordings may be made available to registered participants for a limited time after the live session.

Even if you disable your video, your name or username may still be visible to other participants. If you have any concerns about participation or recording, please contact us at [email protected] prior to joining.

6. Your Content

While we do not typically review the stories, photographs, transcripts, voice recordings, and other content you provide to us (“Your Content”), we may view a subset of Your Content when providing customer support. Unless you expressly agree otherwise, we will only use Your Content as necessary to provide our Services to you. We will not use Your Content for other purposes — such as podcasts or marketing materials — without your explicit permission.

When you upload photos and images via our Services or grant us access to photos stored on your device, that content may also include related metadata such as the time and place the photo was taken. You can restrict the capture of image metadata by adjusting your device settings.

You have control over Your Content. By default, Journey to Legacy will not delete Your Content unless you instruct us to do so or you terminate your account. If you delete Your Content from your account, it will be removed from our application and web interface immediately and permanently deleted from our systems in the ordinary course of business. If you terminate your account, we will delete Your Content within a reasonable timeframe. Please notify us at [email protected] in advance if you want us to retain Your Content after termination.

7. Use of AI Tools

AI Tools in Service Delivery

In the course of providing our Services — including private consulting, memoir coaching, and content organization — Journey to Legacy staff may use third-party AI tools such as Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT to assist with tasks such as drafting, editing, organizing, and structuring content.

Your Consent Is Required

Because your content may include sensitive personal material — such as health information, family history, grief, trauma, and other deeply personal stories — Journey to Legacy will always notify you before using AI tools on your personal content and will obtain your explicit consent prior to doing so. You have the right to decline AI use on your content at any time without affecting your access to our Services.

AI Is Not Used in the Life Story Studio Platform

Our Life Story Studio writing platform does not incorporate AI tools. AI is used only in the context of direct service delivery by Journey to Legacy staff, and only with your explicit consent as described above.

Third-Party AI Privacy Policies

When your content is submitted to a third-party AI tool as part of our service delivery, that content is subject to the privacy policies of those third-party providers. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of Anthropic and OpenAI for more information about how they handle submitted content. Journey to Legacy does not submit your content to AI tools without your knowledge and consent.

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our service providers use various technologies to collect and store information when you use our Services, which may include sending one or more cookies or anonymous identifiers to your device. These technologies help us analyze trends, provide a better user experience, improve our products and services, detect and prevent fraud or security incidents, and gather broad demographic information.

Cookies and similar technologies also help us offer convenient features like remembering your login and account settings, recognizing your browser when you visit, and customizing your experience. Our service providers may also show you advertisements for our products on other websites.

You may set your browser to block all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being set. However, many features of our Services may not function properly if cookies are disabled. For more information, please review our Cookie Policy. Journey to Legacy does not respond to “Do Not Track” signals from browsers.

Journey to Legacy takes data security seriously. We work to protect against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure of your information by maintaining technical, physical, and administrative safeguards appropriate to the nature of our Services.

Our current security practices include:

  • Stories and written content are stored in a password-protected WordPress database hosted by Kinsta on Google Cloud Platform, which provides enterprise-grade data security.
  • Images are stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides physical security, access controls, and network-level security for its infrastructure.
  • Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe, our PCI-compliant payment processor. Journey to Legacy does not store any credit card information.
  • Access to customer data is limited to personnel who need it to provide our Services.

Despite our safeguards, we cannot guarantee that your information will be absolutely safe from intrusion during transmission through the Internet or while stored on our systems. We encourage you to use strong, unique passwords for your account and to contact us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect any unauthorized access to your information.

When you click a link to a Third-Party Service from our site, we do not control the security of those Third-Party Services.

10. Additional Ways We Use Information

In addition to the uses described above, we may also use the information we collect to:

  • Fix issues or problems with our Services
  • Prevent abuse of our Services
  • Comply with applicable laws, legal processes, or regulations
  • Carry out other lawful purposes about which we will notify users and customers

  • During a Change to Our Business: Your information may be transferred to another organization if we merge with or are acquired by another organization, or if we liquidate our assets. The new company’s use of your information will still be subject to this Policy.

Your stories, images, and other content created on our Life Story Studio platform will be retained as long as your account is active. If you prefer that we delete your content after your subscription ends or upon request, please contact us at [email protected] and we will promptly honor that request. Note that we may retain certain information (excluding your stories and images) even after a deletion request for the period of time needed to pursue legitimate business interests, conduct audits, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our Terms.

13. Geographic Information and International Transfers

Journey to Legacy is based in the United States, and your personal information will be primarily transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States — specifically in our WordPress database hosted by Kinsta and on Amazon Web Services infrastructure. The United States may have different privacy laws compared to your country of residence. By using our Services, you consent to the transfer, processing, and storage of your information in the United States.

To the extent that Journey to Legacy’s processing of your personal information is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation or other applicable laws, Journey to Legacy relies on its legitimate interests to process your information in accordance with such applicable laws. When transferring information from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Journey to Legacy relies upon appropriate legal mechanisms, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses.

14. Age Limitations

Our Services are intended for adults and are not targeted at children. We will not knowingly collect or ask for personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13 without consent from a parent or legal guardian. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information without such permission, we will delete that information. California Civil Code Section 1798.83 (the “Shine the Light” law) permits California residents to request information regarding the disclosure of their personal information to third parties for those third parties’ direct marketing purposes. We do not share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

Users who receive marketing materials can opt out at any time by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link in the corresponding email or updating your email settings via our website. Marketing opt-out does not impact transactional or operational notices we may need to send you.
